Product Education Corner: AirStars for Film and Television

Television producers call upon Staged Right for illuminationMotion picture cameras need a lot of light to film a scene.  Unfortunately, a “more is better” approach seldom works the way one might hope it would.  Direct, focused light causes glare – the camera’s worst enemy.  The problem now becomes how do you get the amount of light needed to shoot your scene without ruining it with a harsh glare?  The solution is simple – AirStar lighting balloons.

            Ranging in size from three to twenty-seven feet in diameter, AirStar lighting balloons illuminate large areas with ease, emitting a beautiful, soft, glare-free white light.  Not only is the quality of light better, but they require less power than conventional lighting sources.  They are dimmable, which allows you to control the amount of light you want.  AirStars are also more portable than other lighting options.  When collapsed, AirStar balloons fit in cases comparable to carry-on luggage.  No longer do you need to drive numerous trucks all over the landscape to transport unwieldy light towers.  Some AirStars can perched on tripods, some can be tethered to the ground as they float above your set, others still can even float on water.  The balloons can be colored, much in the same way conventional fixtures can be altered with gel, to achieve the same effect.
